Maternity + Boudoir

Never in a million years did I think I would ever say that I would be setting up a studio in my home, much less a studio to create boudoir sessions! If you do not know what a Boudoir session is, let me give you some insight as to what it is. The Wikipedia definition is as follows; "Boudoir photography, or sensual photography, is a photographic style featuring intimate, sensual, romantic, and sometimes erotic images of its subjects in a photographic studio." This is a pretty straight forward technical definition, right? To me it is more than that. Boudoir photography is about loving yourself. Feeling confident in your own skin and embracing the beauty you hold from the inside out.

It is no secret that maternity photography is my favorite to capture. It only made sense to me to not offer just a boudoir session but maternity boudoir sessions. And why not? Being pregnant is the most amazing transformation that our bodies go through as women. How could we not celebrate it? Sure, being pregnant can down right be uncomfortable. You are swollen, you can feel sickness for no reason, you can be emotional, and let's be honest you can feel down right huge. I had 3 boys and trust me when I say being pregnant was so hard on my body and I did not love being pregnant. But no matter what, it is a stage that we go through when we choose to have children. It is beautiful, it is natural and it truly is a miracle. You are growing another human life inside you! Amazing, right? For this reason, women are super heroes. The strength we have is incredible and the journey we take during this time is cause to celebrate.

Take Time For You

Being pregnant does not last forever. One of my biggest regrets is not having maternity pictures done. Me! A person who loves pictures and preserving memories did not document any of my pregnancies. I am not sure if it was because I let my insecure feelings get in the way or just not appreciating the journey at the time. If only I could go back... BUT I can't! I hope that every woman experiencing the stages of motherhood makes the time and invests in these fleeting moments! Take the time to get your hair and make-up done, relax and have fun! It is ok to pamper yourself for a day! I promise!

A special thank-you to the beautiful women (and their partners) for allowing me the opportunity to use them to help build my maternity boudoir portfolio. I feel very privileged to have met and worked with each of you! I hope to see you all soon and with those precious babies in your arms!
